Hello fellow antique bling lovers...I stumbled onto this site and had no idea Lang's even sponsored such a forum...what a great idea.
I am a consumer, lover of antique diamonds and other antique jewelry. Have considered getting into the antique diamond business but something tells me the timing is not good right now! So for now, I just look, listen, and learn.
More than anything, I am keen to hone my skills in knowing exactly what it is that I'm looking at, as well as knowing what a fair price is for such things. A friend took an appraisal course at Sotheby's NYC last summer and seemed to get a lot out of it. For me, I've had so many experiences where I know what I am looking at, and yet an antiques dealer who has been in business for decades is telling me I'm wrong. For example, recently I stumbled across a wonderful Victorian piece but it looked off to me, and it was because the diamonds were RBs, not OMCs or OECs. The seller insisted they were OECs until I louped them and said they were definitely RBs. This sort of thing happens all the time, and I know I'm not an expert...so I'm happy to be here and learn from others who know more than I...
Lastly, are we allowed to post photos and ask for opinions on value, circa estimation, and things of that nature?
Thanks for having me!
