14k Watch and pin

Postby pemalon on Wed Oct 28, 2009 9:39 am

Can anyone identify the maker of this watch and the other hallmarks pictured? It belonged to my Grandmother who came from Germany around the turn of the last century (1900). I am not sure if she purchased it here or in Germany. I found it with my Mothers things after she passed.

Your Grandmother probably obtained it in Germany, the crown in the sun hallmark (the bigger one on the bottom left) is the mark Germans used on gold after 1884. It's a pity the Germans don't use a date system. The leaf will be your maker's mark, I can't help you with the maker but maybe someone else here can?

Inscriptions are often left by watchmakers that worked on the watch, the inscription on the cover is probably one of these.
